Beach Touch

Team Specifics
Each team would consist of a maximum of 6 team players
and minimum of 3 players of which only 3 are allowed to be
on the field at any one time whilst a team is in possession of
the ball and a maximum of 2 players while the team is
defending.
Players may substitute each other at any time. Each reserve
player should be by the sidelines and is only allowed into the
court once the main player has left the game.
Physical contact is not necessary between substituting players
but the change should be made from the same sideline. If a
point is scored, the players are allowed to substitute at will.
They can drop off and leave the playing area via the sidelines
or the scoreline.
A minimum of 1 female players must make up the team with a
minimum of 1 female player being on court at each time of
play.
Rules and Regulations
A team would retain possession of the ball until 4 touches
have been effected.
If a touch is effected on the ball in flight, by a defending player,
the attacking team must retain possession of the ball for the
touch count to continue. A team is not awarded 4 more
touches.
Throwing, bouncing or dropping of the ball on or over the touch
line will not constitute a score. Possession will be handed over
to the defending team in the event of a drop ball on the touch
line
After scoring the point, the ball is to be left on the ground at the
mark or immediately given to the closest opposition player.
Failure to adhere to either of these rules might result in a
penalty point awarded against the attacking team. Time delay
by any team through illegal deliberate retaining of the ball will
result in a penalty point awarded against the offending team.
The winner of the game is the team that scores the most points
within the time limit. In the event of a draw, the GOLDEN GOAL
rule applies. Sudden Death:
- This would mean that after the original match time limit,
each team is allowed to attack and defend once. The
captains would use a coin toss to decide which team
attacks first.
- After one team attacks, they would have to defend.
This would mean that one play has occurred. The team
that manages to score and prevent the other team from
scoring during that one play will win the match. One play
constitutes 4 touches.
In the event that both teams fail to score, the match would
continue in this manner until one team scores the winning point.
Player being touched must “roll the ball over”. Legs have to go
over the ball.
All players from the defending team must move back 3 metres
from the attacking player performing the roll ball.
The player who receives the ball can run or pass to other
players. If the player gets touched, it is counted as one of the
four touches, only after he/she has advanced in front of the
previously touched teammate.
Accessories and jewellery are not allowed to be worn by
players during the match as it may cause harm and danger to
other players.
All players are required to play barefooted and no form of
footwear is allowed. Ankle straps and guards are optional.
Goggles to protect eyes are optional as well.
Uniforms would consist of shorts and shirts. In the event that
2 teams where the same coloured uniforms, a coin toss would
be used to see which team would have to wear the bibs. Bibs
are to be worn with a shirt underneath at all times for hygienic
purposes.
Fouls
Unsportsmanlike behaviour is subject to loss of possession,
dismissal from the game or loss of 5 metres for the offending
player’s team.
Choice of penalties will be to the discretion of the referees.
This would include:
- Throwing the ball away at change of possession
- Fighting or using physical force in the game
- Back talking referees
- Swearing
- Continual breaches of rules.
- Forward pass
- Touch pass
- Offside breach
Referees decision of choice of penalties will be final.
Tap Penalty
Tap penalties are awarded in the following cases:
- Obstruction
- Forward pass
- Player misconduct
- Failing to perform rollball where the touch was effected
- When the attacking player passes the ball after an
effective touch. (touch pass)
For all penalties, the defending team has to move back 5
metres from the mark. If the defending team fails to move back
5 metres, the referee can award another 5 metres advantage.
The attacking team must tap the ball with the foot to start
replay.
Game Play
All teams in the preliminary rounds would play a round robin
league system of 5mins per halve game (2min half-time break)
with the scoring as follows:
- WIN = 3 points
- DRAW = 1 point
- LOSE = 0 points
- WALKOVER = 3 points
Teams in the quarter – finals and above would play using a
round robin system. A game would last 7mins per halve
(2min break).
