Beach Soccer

Team Specifics

Each team would consist of a maximum of 8 team players
and a minimum of 5 players (i.e. all five players would be on
court and there are no substitutes).

Players are only allowed to substitute each other when a
signal is made to the referee. The substitution will be
completed only after the referee has given his permission.

The goalkeeper can be substituted at any time by his
substitute. (The clock does not stop during the substitution.)

Any of the other players may change places with the
goalkeeper provided that the referee has been informed
and the referee has given his permission.

Each team must have at least 4 team players at the start
of each game. In the event of players being sent off which
results in the team having fewer than three players
(including the goalkeeper) left, the match is abandoned.
The match will then be counted as a walkover for the
opponents.

Rules and Regulations

Each match lasts 10 minutes of effective playing in the group
stage matches and matches before quarterfinals.

Matches from quarterfinals onwards will last two halves of
8 minutes of effective playing.

Either the choice of sides or kick-off is decided by the toss
of a coin. The team winning the toss decides either: which
goal it wishes to attack or to start the game. The two teams
shall swap during the second period. In the case of an
overtime or penalty kick, another toss will be performed.

All players are to be in their own half before a kick-off. A
goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-off.

The ball is out of play when the whole ball has touched the
off bound area of the pitch or has touched a player totally or
partially in contact with such area of the pitch.

The duration of each period may only be prolonged to enable
a penalty kick or a free kick to be taken. In one of these cases,
the game or period will end when:
- The ball goes into the goal
- The ball is kicked out of bounds
- The ball touches the defending goalkeeper
and/or the posts/crossbar and crosses the goal line-
the goal is valid
- The ball touches any other player than the defending
goalkeeper after it is kicked – the kick will have no effect
- The ball is stopped by the defending goalkeeper

Extra time period will only apply after the group stages

The goalkeeper cannot score directly throwing the ball with
his hands or when he kicks the ball in the air before it touches
the ground after releasing it from his hands. However, he can
score if he puts the ball down on the ground and controls it
with his feet.

A direct free kick from the centre of the halfway line is
awarded to the opposing team when:
- The goalkeeper uses his hands to receive an
intentional pass from any teammate.
- The goalkeeper, after having possession of the ball in
his hands inside his own area, plays the ball to his feet
and then takes the ball with his hands again.

Free kicks are always direct with no walls allowed when
defending the kick.

A penalty kick is awarded is a player commits any of the
aforementioned actions in his own penalty area. The player
who received the foul takes the penalty kick, unless seriously
injured, in which his substitute will take it.

In the event that the offence committed was deliberate
handling of the ball, any player from the team awarded with
the free-kick or penalty kick may take it.

The players other than the penalty kick taker are located
inside the pitch, outside and behind the penalty area when
the kick is taken. The player taking the kick cannot touch the
ball a second time until it has touched another player or
rebounded off the goal posts or crossbar.

A player may be shown either a yellow or red card when he
commits a foul deemed as careless, reckless or using
excessive force by the referee. The yellow card is a caution
for foul play.

A red card shown to any player will mean that the player will
not be able to take part in that particular game anymore. A
substitute player may enter the pitch 2 minutes after his
teammate has been sent off with his red card

Throw-ins from the sidelines can be taken by any player, and
can be done using two hands, or the ball can be kicked back
into play. A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in or
kick-in. A corner kick is awarded to the attacking team when
the whole of the ball, having last touched a player of the
defending team pass over the end line. A goal can be scored
from a corner kick.

A walkover match will constitute to the team being award the
scoreline of 3-0.

Extra time period will only apply after the group stages. In the
case of a draw at the end of the match, an extra time period
of no longer than 3 minutes will be played. This would be
played with a “GOLDEN GOAL” format with the first team
scoring within the 3 minutes of extra time played winning.
If after the extra time a draw persists, alternate penalty kicks
will be taken. The team scoring the higher number of goals
with an equal number of kicks will be the winner.

Players on the same team must wear clothing of similar
colours. In the event that players of both teams are wearing
similar colours, a coin toss would be used to determine which
team will wear the coloured bibs. A shirt must be worn
underneath the bib at all times for hygienic purposes.

Players may wear visors or sunglasses at their own risk.
Players are required to play barefoot. Only SOFT ankle and
shin guards are allowed.

It is forbidden to wear any objects that may cause an injury
to a player, such as jewelry, pins, bracelets, casts, etc.
Players may wear glasses or flat-band rings at their own risk.

Fouls

Unsportsmanlike behaviour is subject to loss of possession
or dismissal from the game.

Choice of penalties will be to the discretion of the referees.

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player
commits any of the following actions in a manner considered
by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive
force:

- Kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
- Trips or attempts to trip an opponent
- Jumps at an opponent
- Charges an opponent
- Pushes/pulls an opponent
- Spits at an opponent
- Handles the ball deliberately
- Throwing sand to an opponent or the referee

The referee has the authority to award a direct free kick to the
opposing team if he considers the action of a player as
dangerous, besides those mentioned above.

A direct free kick from the centre of the halfway line is awarded
to the opposing team when:

- The goalkeeper uses his hands to receive an
intentional pass from any teammate
- The goalkeeper, after having possession of the ball
in his hands inside his own area, plays the ball to his
feet and then takes the ball with his hands again

Free kicks are always direct with no walls allowed when
defending the kick.

Game Play

Either the choice of sides or kick-off is decided by the toss of
a coin. The team winning the toss decides either: which goal
it wishes to attack or to start the game. The two teams shall
swap during the second period.

In the case of an overtime or penalty kick, another toss will be
performed.

All teams in the preliminary rounds would play a round robin
league system of 10mins with the scoring as follows:

- WIN = 3 points
- DRAW = 1 point
- LOSE = 0 point
- WALKOVER = 3 points

Matches from quarterfinals onwards will last two halves of
8 minutes of effective playing (also round robin system and
with 2mins break).
